[Staff] - We received the following note from Joakim Jardenberg
regarding the "crack-a-mac" challenge:
I'm sorry to say that the problem we have had tonight [server
problems] was not a hardware
issue. We believed so, because as soon as we started the
server it went to a stand with
nothing showing up in the WebSTAR status window.
We have now realized that it was (and still is) the most
furious Syn_Flood attack we've ever
seen. The attack is performed with IP-spoofing as well so its
hard to talk some sense to
this guy (or gal)...
This attack is so heavy that our ISP (the second biggest in
sweden) and we agreed that it
would bring down ANY system. Hacke has not crashed, he is
just unable to fulfill his duties.
This is a true "Denial of Service" attack and as such is has
nothing to do with the
challenge.
I can only assure you that we are working as hard as possible
reach a solution and as soon
as it is done we will notify you again.
At the moment we have moved Hacke to another server were he
just responds with a brief note
about the status. Please note that this is a temporary
solution and that the challenge is
OFF at the moment.
Thank you for your support
Best regards,
Jocke

... at least you can drive something fast, arm your-
self with powerful tools, and look good doing it.
