Dominant in which measure? Absolute sales volume? likely Dollar volume?
also likely. Can it lose mindshare, though? Perhaps -- measue the number of
PCWeek page 1 headlines and that might say more. How about growth rates,
since its competitors are starting from a smaller base?

Frankly, I think 2:1 is still winning odds. For only 24 months, I might say
it's as high as 5:1. In the long term, we may never see Win32 be replaced
on PCs-- just as mainframes still run MVS, etc. What might happen to really
destabliize the wider market is the diminishing importance of PCs. If I had
a $2 Net chip that ran a new "OS", that might take over instead.
