Nothing against Yftp.app, (and I agree about the directory
caching), but a simple background filter with an Application
object present ONLY for the display of an alert panel

and invoked completely in the background sounds preferable,
at least as an option. The choosing capacity that makes
Yftp so desirable isn't needed if a single URL is being
passed.

Even a wrapper around ftplib.pl v1.1 8/16/94 would be better
for 'servicing' an ftp scheme URL in the background, especially
since it's a v4 Perl library and (I understand) v4.036 'solid'
Perl is bundled with 3.3 NEXTSTEP.
