I've taken to pronouncing "www" as "dub-dub-dub" (or actually, if you listen
closely, "duh-duh-dub") because life is too short to say "double-you
double-you double-you". Does anyone else do this? The "dub" for "w" I
probably picked up from University of Washington faculty and students who
pronounce "UW" as "you-dub".
And yes, it is still occasionally necessary to use the "www", e.g. for
www.stanford.edu and www.berkeley.edu and www.cmu.edu (neither
http://stanford.edu nor http://berkeley.edu nor http://cmu.edu will work).
