"[EXCLUSIVE] A host of rumors are now circulating
the 'net over a recent MactheKnife article in
MacWEEK. Essentially, the blade tells us that Apple
may include OS/2 APIs and 80x86 emulation in
Rhapsody. OS/2 APIs?!? Why? Well, thessaSOURCE
learned that one of the chief reasons PC users don't
upgrade to the many alternate OS choice available to
them is lack of support for their existing Windows
apps. What Apple is actually licensing from IBM is the
code that allows OS/2 to run Windows applications. In
addition, Apple may provide the same functionality to
Rhapsody users on the PowerPC side through code,
never shipped by IBM, that allows x86 binaries to run
at a brisk pace. In other words, if this "Red Box" is
completed in time, you could run both your Mac OS
apps and Windows apps on your Power Macintosh: a
huge boon for the PowerPC whose future has come
under question of late."
