Yeah, the telomere 'problem' still exists.
As each strand of DNA divides during cell reproduction, one strand is 'one
bit shorter' than the other. There are some 'stop bits' at the end -
telomeres - and the replication algorithm has a bug.

One cell has the same length as it's 'parent', and the other is one bit
shorter. Over time the average length gets smaller & then the stop bits
disappear & the replication fails to be accurate.
