Speaking of sinister conspiracies, could it really be coincidence that
"Understanding Comics" and Acme Novelty came out at around the same time? I
think not. We can only conjecture an Illuminati meeting where Chris Ware and
Scott McCloud orchestrated a plan to subvert the MI5-backed superhero
establishment, in a ploy to devastate the CIA stronghold in the post-hippy
underground; cf Gilbert Shelton et al. Chris Ware's stuff is an eerily direct
exploration of McCloud's ideas.
