The move from Vancouver was somewhat crazy. INS was very sticky. As
I've now started work here @ Cisco Systems I can be a little less
circumspect about what I'm doing for a living.
I'm working in Cisco's Global Alliances business unit, focusing on
developing opportunities and building partnerships in VOIP (Voice Over
Internet Protocol) and Consumer Wireless Networks. Both are obviously
growing and rapidly changing fields and I'm finding the pace harried but
invigorating. Cisco pushes their employees but rewards them by
empowering them to be active participants in the evolution of the
company -- and of course Cisco makes us all stake holders in our
collective future via generous Stock Options etc.
For those concerned about my net worth [read: MOM] my option price will
be set at market close on Friday. Until then, I'd encourage all of you
to SELL SELL SELL! (I'm probably the only guy who actually benefits from
the current market downturn). From all experience thus far this is a
difficult but VERY exciting and rewarding place to work. I'm looking
forward to years of fun in the Valley.
The Valley is expensive but comfortable and I haven't really begun to
look for a place in earnest yet. When I find one, I'll let you know. I
should be visiting Vancouver over Christmas so I look forward to
visiting y'all. In the meantime, I'm always connected.
