I believe it is the perpetual student reflex. It is amazingly
strong. Part of it is being a poorly paid grad student (which you
tried to emulate from your earliest years), never knowing where your
next meal would come from. Part of it is the communal dining
phenomena - he who eats most efficiently eats most.
Whatever, it is a terrible syndrome, especially when combined with
the business world's penchant for expense-free food. I gained ten
pounds my first month at BCG!
