As someone who has been threatened at knifepoint, let me say that I'm very
glad that it was "only" at knifepoint, not at gunpoint, and glad that it's
even a little difficult for bad guys to get guns--and think it would be a
good thing if it were much, much, much, much, much harder for them to.
As someone who has read one too many stories of children killing or maiming
their playmates with a gun around the house, let me say that I think that it
should be no easier to obtain a license to own and operate a firearm than it
is to own or operate an automobile. Take a shooter's ed course, pass a
written and operating test, and fine, have a gun. But, if you want to
increase dramatically your odds of being threatened with or shot by a gun,
the simplest way to do so is to become a gun owner.
