Tragedy indeed:
1) he set an arbitrary (high, iirc 75%) threshold for payments
2) the value to be paid itself is rather large, and most of it goes to
the credit card company. Few bucks (2-3$) would have been appropriate.
3) there is no widespread single-click (low-threshold, low-overhead,
micrograin) digicash scheme.
