(in today's Scripting News & Robot Wisdom)

Kind of cool, but it was way cooler when Donald
[I-forget-his-last-name], a student of mine at the art
college in Toronto, re-purposed the Quake engine (for
approx. $80,000 less than the Cambridge architecture
gang) by stripping out the ghouls and guns, leaving a
3-D space populated by electroacoustic sound samples
that you'd mix-master by running around the rooms and
tunnels ... very nice echo effects. The Quake physics
engine kicks: 500 K and not an ounce of fat, puts VRML
to shame. (Though maybe Unreal's got the guts & glory
these days -- anyone plugged in??)
