I believe the thing in question was called "FaceMaker." (Too lazy to
hunt for the link for reasons described below.) After an initial write
up, all the data (i.e. raw and evolved pictures, and the mechanisms for
evolving your own as input to the study) were pulled off the Web --- at
least, that was the case when I went looking for it. (Think I came
across this in Wired, btw.)
IIRC, one of the interesting conclusions that came out of this was that
all women the male study subjects considred "beautiful" had a fairly
characteristic look, but the women considered "most beautiful" by the
test subjects diverged widely and were also considered "unusual
looking."
