Usually I stick to the natives-always-say-it-right-by-definitiion
rule, but in this one case I have to say that he's crazy.
"GIF", like "gift" and "Gifford" has a hard 'g'. It doesn't stand for
Jraffics Interchange Format, nor is it a brand of peanut butter.

I say "dee-mon", and I've never heard anyone say it the other way.
