o Space.com Gets $50 Million, Neil Armstrong Joins Board
NEW YORK -- Space.com, which provides space exploration
and astronomy content, news, and educational information,
said it received $50 million in second-round funding
led by new investor SpaceVest, with new investors
Blue Chip Venture Co. and PaineWebber, and existing
investors Greylock and Venrock Associates also participating.
The round will finance consumer branding, international
expansion, and acquisitions. Jack Wyant, general
partner at Blue Chip Venture, John Higginbotham,
chairman of SpaceVest, and former astronaut Neil
Armstrong will join Space.com's board of directors.
Last week, NBC took a minority equity stake in Space.com.
