I've noticed that you can't view png files alone in
netscape4.7 (Solaris, anyway). So, no wonder png is not taking over
the world.

compare e.g.:
http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/ (multiple visible pngs)
with
http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/graphics/esr002.png
(blank page).

hmmph. They even shows up in 'Page info', since it's an html page....
