[pseudo-VOID] tipping a contractor

I recently had the shower floor in my master bathroom redone (it was
built poorly and had serious drainage problems). Anyway, the guy who
did the tile work did a good job, IMHO... After he was done and gone,
I wondered if I should have tipped him. I've never been in a similar
situation, so I didn't have experience to draw from. What should I have
done? If a tip was in order, how much is customary?
