[Staff] - To no one's surprise Compaq sold the most personal computers in the retail market in January, according to PC Data.
But to the surprise of many, Apple nabbed third place with 11.9% of retail personal computer revenue for the month.

Compaq had 35.4% of unit sales and 34.6% of retail personal computer revenue. Packard Bell NEC came in second with
17.7% of unit sales and 14.8% of retail personal computer revenue in January. Hewlett-Packard and IBM had 10.9% and
10.8% of the revenue respectively.

While Apple was third in revenue, it finished in fifth place for the number of retail computer unit sales. Including mail order,
Apple had 7.1% share of retail PC unit sales.
