Has FoRK outgrown its utility as a mailing list?

I got a lot of feedback on the suggestion of SPeeDFoRK ("SPoRK")

    http://www.xent.com/dec00/0014.html

and it's entirely possible that FoRK-as-mailing-list has outgrown its utility.

The cool thing about SPoRK is that anyone who wanted to receive all
notes as a stream of email (as FoRK is delivered now) could do so.
Also, anyone who wanted to read the notes on the web at their leisure
could do so. Meanwhile, no one has to put up with the spam from
strangers, or worse, spam from friends, because SPoRK has topics instead
of threads and each topic has its own "buddies" who can post -- and only
those buddies.

It would have to be done well, but it's entirely possible that a
well-done SPoRK application would supplant FoRK as a mailing list.
Sounds like a challenge.
