You've jumped to conclusions:
1. That the lady is John's friend.
2. That the lady did not *try* to teach the students (that is her duty).
3. That the lady did not succeed in teaching the concept.
And in your earlier mail, you called her a lousy teacher who lacked
courage and creativity.
All John told us is the teacher posed this problem to him:

All in all, a good example of how people naturally induce conclusions,
rather than using "real" logic with the known facts :-)
