The dev folks at Freenet have been tossing the usefullness of metadata
around for searches and the like. Some of the previaling views is that ,
yes, the captialistic tendencay of users to steer clear of sites will
help. So will intertrust schemes and other such, where by nodes can trust
or not trust sites metadata, thus not passing on bogus info.
Go check out there mailinglist for much deeper detail than i can get into
right now. Packing for a 2 week trip is tedium without AC.
