*** Dr. Dre sued by George Lucas
LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Filmmaker George Lucas' Lucasfilm Ltd. has
filed a copyright and trademark infringement lawsuit against artist
Dr. Dre, his Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. In the
complaint, filed April 14 in U.S. District Court in California, the
production company contends that the rapper used its trademarked "THX
Deep Note" sound to open his current album "Dr. Dre - 2001" without
Lucasfilm's permission. "THX Deep Note" is the sound accompanying the
THX logo that's displayed before films screened in THX sound-equipped
theaters. Lucasfilm, which claims it is the first sound to be
registered as a trademark, is seeking unspecified damages.
