I've been using Unix for, give or take, ten years. In all that time,
I've only had a handful of occasions (a half dozen, tops) where I
was kicked me out of X and put back at the console prompt. Perhaps
half of those times, I also had to reboot because keyboard input was
subsequently garbled.
NT doesn't come close to this kind of robustness.
"panic: freeing free inode" (which I have never seen, BTW) may not be
any better, but its ilk is sure as hell is less frequent than the blue
screen of death.
