Linux/OSX/MSW/VMWare et al, was: Re: [FoRK] More iPhone analysis

CS2 runs pretty well apparently thanks to Google's support, and Google's
funding more work that should get CS3 there:

Too bad there isn't more effort toward something like this for OSX Intel
apps on Intel Linux:
http://www.openlina.org/

Lina seems pretty cool, particularly for Linux Intel apps on Intel OSX.

And of course there is VMWare, which is free and very effective for all
intents and purposes. And since we now have an embarrassment of cores
(I now consider 4-8 standard) and memory (4-8GB is a standard range now
with 32GB just a moderate bump, at $50/GB on the low end even at 800Mhz
ECC) and disk space (1TB for $270), what's the excuse not to run it?

Now, oddly, it is more portable to buy Windows apps to run under
VMWare+Vista over a base of OSX or Linux than it is to buy OSX apps,
which locks you out of Linux at the moment. These guys are making
progress: http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/about.html
And you would think that VMWare would work out something.

It appears that some interesting work has been done, with EFI emulation
etc.:

Apparently reasonably recent OSX versions will run in VMWare:
