I'm curious -- how many people on this list have actually spent time  
as practicing scientists? (I should say "natural scientists", since  
Computer Science is a  slightly different beast. :-)

As someone with a Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech, I spent at least a  
couple years doing "real" science, and I'm always mildly bemused by  
how the reality of science compares with its caricatures (both pro and  
con)...
