I'm a big fan of 3connexion (have a SpaceOrb360, a SpaceTraveler,
and almost a few interim devices with serial port support),
but I'm really impressed with the latest SpaceNavigator.
It's cheap (I bought it for 40 EUR), is much bigger and heavier
than the SpaceTraveler), has a much nicer touch and it actually
has driver support for Windows/OS X/Linux as well as quite a
few applications (Google Earth, Google Sketchup and Maya).
Best of all, support for Second Life is coming (there's already
a flycam hack available, though I could find the client menu
on the OS X SL client), which is a major desideratum for
virtual environments.
Check that thing out in person. The improved ergonomics can't
be described in words.
