Jeff, you know exactly what I mean.

Critical response is a bit part of the reason **why I'm here** --
What good would this place be, if everyone just agreed uncritically?

No, I'm talking about safety from threats. When you say that
you think I am mentally unstable, and then start digging out
your DSM reference books, and finding evidence to support,
and collecting anecdotes from your own history of some other
guy you met, and drawing comparisons -- I feel threatened.

I believe that, if someone took what I wrote there, and then
took your evidence and stories, and approached a
psychologist or a judge, or called my employer, and tried to
  present a case,

-- that you could do so, and I would be in real danger, and
my daughter and family would be in danger (because they
  rely on me.)

I care about what I'm talking about, and I take risks to say
what I think. But that's too much risk for me to take.

I love criticism, and I love to respond to criticism, and the
whole interplay there. You've never seen anything to the
  contrary from me.

But this streak here crosses a line, and I feel threatened.
So, I think it's best for me to take Dr. E's advice, and bow
  out here.

  Sincerely,
    Lion
