Jeff,
You've crossed a line, and I am going to completely stop
posting to FoRK if you don't make it absolutely clear that
it is safe for me to post my speculations to FoRK.
"Social Awakening" -- Have you heard of a thing / period
called "The Enlightenment?"
It represented a massive shift in thought in society.
It wasn't like, one day, everyone woke up and said, "We're
enlightened!", one day. And it didn't mean even that
70% of the people saw "it," whatever it was. (The
Enlightenment was a nebulous thing. Similar to
The Renaissance.)
The social awakening I am imagining is on the order
of The Enlightenment or The Renaissance. People likely
won't know that anything has happened until long
after it has happened, and historians write, "Well, there
was this shift in public thinking about spirituality around
the end of the first decade of the 21st century. The
New Atheists period shifted into the Rediscovered Heart
period," or whatever they'll call it.
THIS is what I am talking about. Something like that.
ARE YOU CLEAR ON THIS? Does this pass
DSM-code#-whatever?
I am afraid, because I *have* read psych literature that has
said, "If someone believes there are messages in movies,
or if someone believes that there are grand narratives for
humanity, that person's probably insane." GREAT!
Let's lock up ALL scriptwriters and sociologists! It scares
me that people take these DSM-whatever guides so seriously,
though.
"Hegel" -- Would you might telling me how I've abused
Hegel's notion of synthesis, antithesis, and thesis?
He was talking specifically about forces of history.
Now, people often times criticize Hegelian views of history.
I, personally, see some truth to it, and have no problem
using his models.
Would you care to explain how I've got Hegel dead wrong?
But most importantly: I need to know that it's safe for me
to post to FoRK. You are painting a picture of me as a
crazy person.
So far, I've felt trusted in FoRK, enough to speak my thoughts.
My thoughts are unusual, but not crazy, and I can explain
anything that I'm asked to explain.
But I wouldn't feel safe speaking my thoughts just anywhere,
and there are people who won't give you time to explain
yourself. They'll just lock you up.
I need to know that FoRK is a safe place, and I need your
help to know that.
Sincerely,
Lion
