reminds me of a cartoon in the dec. new yorker:  our earliest ancestor 
slithering out of the primordial ooze, growing some legs, losing a tail, 
crouching on two feet, then, finally upright, arriving at a jetport's metal 
detector.

read it two ways: "the wait is really that long," and "so this is what we've 
become."
