IMHO zipped streams are likely to be the winning format for binary XML, because
the tools are already widely available as part of every JVM.  Not that this is
the ideal result, just the easiest evolutionary path.

My reasoning is that the usefulness of a protocol depends heavily on network
effects.  A small difference in availability of zipped streams vs XTalk is
likely to have a large effect in the long run.
