IBM Corp's 150-strong Taligent unit is due to announce a few more
licensing deals any day now. It is expected to expand its relationship
with Sun's JavaSoft unit in the area of 2D graphics technology, announce
an OEM deal with a "major internet company" probably this week. The
company says its WebRunner toolkit, previewed at JavaOne is meant as a
taster for VisualAge for Java, in which WebRunner will be included.
WebRunner contains an ActiveX to JavaBean migration tool; JavaBeans wizard
and tester, and client and server frameworks - sets of class libraries and
sample Java code. Product marketing director Ron Barr said the server-side
works will support CGI, IBM, Netscape and Microsoft servers, and Sun's
Jeeves Java server and Servelet APIs when it's fully released in
mid-summer. WebRunner and the other Taligent products are up in beta at
