I think it's 16MB. That's not much but shortage of RAM is unlikely
since the machine started out reasonably nippy and has gradually been
getting slower and slower... There's lots of free space on the HD.

He knows that but objects to paying extra to Microsoft for a
defragmenter after shelling out for what is supposed to be the result
of 15+ years of evolution of a Disk Operating System but doesn't even
do elementary disk operations... Are there any non-Microsoft
equivalents?

As for "other stuff", why does one have to pay extra for trivia like
solid window drags? (which RISC OS had in ROM from day one, of course).

>Why isn't he running Linux? [...]

'Cos he didn't listen to me, he bought the hype. Which is why I
refuse to get bogged down in his Win95 problems except for forwarding
his request to a bunch of clueful people like yourself...

However you will be glad to know that he is now shopping for a 500MHz
Vobis Alpha ($3500 with 1MB L3/64MB RAM/4GB HD) to run Linux.
