Well, maybe the use of two more X's is appropriate. The Katt's pal at the bar
regaled El Gato with an X-pletive-not-deleted version of Steve Jobs' attempts
to get into the Moscone Center to cheerlead for ActiveX. It didn't matter
that Jobs is a Silicon Valley icon; the security guard was adhering to strict
orders: no badge, no entrance. Even a classic Steve rage did little to sway
Mr. Security. He was finally freed from Jobs' tribulation by an alert
Redmondian.

"I wish they hadn't let him in," said Spence. "It would have been nice to be
spared one more speech about how exciting the Web will become."

The final X story: Spencer is looking forward to the fireworks between the X
Consortium and Microsoft, now that all the talk is about ActiveX. Was it
flattery? Some of the consortium members are outraged that Microsoft would
usurp the X label.
