CUPERTINO, CA, USA -- 19 October, 1999 --CommerceNet today announced that
Palm IIIx=99 handheld devices will be given to attendees of the CommerceNet
99 conference in San Diego on 1-3 November,so they can experience the power
and understand the potential of eCheck technology. CommerceNet 99
participants will use their Palm=99 handheld device throughout the conferenc=
e
to purchase conference items.

"eCheck technology creates a universal payment instrument that will play an
important role in the future of eCommerce. The technology supports a
variety of digitally signed transactions. These transactions will be vital
elements in transforming businesses of all kinds in this emerging space,"
said Mark Resch, Executive Vice President and COO of CommerceNet. "Using
the Palm Pilot=99 to create and use eChecks proves that mobile eCommerce is
quickly becoming a reality."

A CommerceNet initiative, eCheck is a new payment instrument that combines
the security, speed and processing efficiencies of all-electronic
transactions with established legal infrastructure and business processes
associated with paper checks. eCheck is a cooperative effort of more than
fifteen banks, government entities, technology vendors and eCommerce
organizations worldwide, including Agorics Incorporated, Bank of America,
Certicom, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, Federal Reserve Financial
Services, Fleet Bank, GTE, IBM, IntraNet, RDM Corporation, SafeNet, Sun
Microsystems and the United States Treasury.

Diana Roberson, director Sales Development of Palm Computing, Inc, a 3Com
Company, said, "We are very pleased to work with CommerceNet and its
members to demonstrate state-of-the-art technology that allows electronic
commerce providers to improve their service and accommodate customers'
increasingly mobile lifestyles."

TAKING E-COMMERCE BEYOND THE DESKTOP
CommerceNet 99 attendees will create their own eChecks using their new Palm
IIIx=99 handheld as an electronic wallet. Through implementations by IBM and
RDM --who are among the first organizations to develop eCheck solutions
--participants can see how easy it is to write an eCheck: user settings are
customized with simple drop-down menus and basic forms. Next, attendees
will use their eCheck to "purchase" select CommerceNet 99 conference
merchandise from the CN 99 conference store. After transmitting the eCheck
as a secure, digitally signed, encrypted message, users will see the eCheck
receipt and deposit process, as well as receive their selected items.
