In MY day, sonny, they didn't have laptops. We had one computer in high
school that we all shared. We booted it with toggle switches (2A04 soft
reset, 2A00 full reset) and used a VT50 terminal (all upper case). We used a
teletype for a printer, and we were always out of paper, so we would use
paper towels from the restroom, which fit okay but the paper wasn't very
smooth and the ribbon was old so it was hard to read the printouts. Well, at
least we had the luxury of a mini-floppy drive (that would be a 5 1/4"
drive, smaller than a normal 8" floppy).
