Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has apologized for a racially offensive TV
ad the company ran last year in Peru, the NAACP said Tuesday. The ad,
which compared a black man's lips with inflated tires, spent 5 days
on the air in the South American nation last January before Goodyear
executives killed the spot and fired the ad agency which produced it.
The NAACP said Goodyear Chairman Samir Gibara apologized to black
Americans in a letter to Kweisi Mfume, the civil rights
organization's chief executive. He said the company deeply regretted
the advertisement and had tightened up internal procedures. See http://www.infobeat.com/stories/cgi/story.cgi?id=6468995-799
