I got a first flash about this on Friday night after seeing Starship
troopers. A few of the local admins got togther and looked around for
common threads.

It appears to be an illegal instruction that is passed on to the chip. It
is an equal opertunity destroyer, being that any os may make the call and
its the instruction code in the chip itself that is the problem.

Now you would think by 8 hours into the finding of this and it alert to
the net all hell would be breaking loose, but oddly there was a slow
simmer on this. When I got to work today, three days after the alert was
raised, all the admins here were not aware of it. Then again, it is a gov
site.

Are folks getting jaded with chip bugs, os poop and general crapiness of
product?

(my short answer, Yes, and most admins do little to meet a base lvel of
excelence or the expectation of its raising)
