Hank wins by a landslide!

For anyone who has been following this :) I find Peoples disclaimer of
its importance amusing. I have a feeling they'd be playing it up to the
hilt if Leonardo had won it. Also, the amount of typos in it, and the
fact that the banner reads "3rd annual most beautiful people contest",
and the first sentence claims it is their sixth :)

3rd Annual
Most Beautiful
People Poll

Though we're hardly novices at handling online polls -- this was our
sixth -- nothing could have prepared us for the agony, the ecstasy. . .
and, well, the angry, drunken dwarf. What began as an innocent bit of
interactive online fun turned into a major media spectacle. It kind of
made us nostalgic for the days when all we had to contend with was
sparring between the Xena fans and the Hercules supporters.

A few notes about the poll results: Yes, there is actually a Hank. His
name is Henry and he lives in Massachusetts and he'll be doing an online
chat with us on Tuesday May 12 at 8 p.m., so come see for yourself if
you don't believe he really exists. Though some of you participated in
the Hank Prank as an amusement, still others of you wrote in to say you
were protesting PEOPLE's interpretation of what beauty is. Or some such.
But, contrary to popular belief, there was never the possibility that
Hank would appear on the cover of PEOPLE Magazine (Not only is the poll
is separate from the magazine's editorial content, but, as some of you
may have noticed, the poll ended after the annual Beauties issue hit
newsstands). And, unless he marries Pamela Anderson or joins Hanson,
chances are Hank probably won't make the cover. But he's been sporting
about all this attention and will always have a place in our hearts.

So, many thanks to all of you who participated in the third annual
PEOPLE Online Beauties poll. It was done in the spirit of fun -- not as
a definitive reading of any sociological patterns. We had a good time
watching the fireworks, and hope you did, as well.
