Just taking a break.

Been designing the NeXT Users LA web site for the better part of last night
and today, and thought I'd take a little break. This web site has taken on
a life of it's own as all do. However this one is so freakin' stylish that
it's beginning to scare even me.

I decided to work with only the original NeXT colors, those being black,
with red, yellow, green, and magenta. (See NeXT logo for example) Well one
thing has led to another and now I'm afraid I'm going to have to include a
help page to help the less than art school educated around the site.

Which brings me to the reason for this post. One thing about the original
NeXT (ON) was it's enormous style. Everything about it spoke, no screamed
elegance. This is something Apple really has never had, and certaintly
doesn't have now. Maybe Steve can bring that back to Apple I don't know.
But when you worked on a NeXTStation you just did good work. You were
living in a virtual world of the best. Best designed OS, best designed
hardware, just the best at the time. That is one reason that Apple was able
to succeed and still is preferred in the creative community (of course 97%
have never seen a NeXT.) WinTel boxes are just butt ugly. Win 3.1 was
horrible to look at and Win'95/NT having stolen most everything from NeXT
is still a blue collar version of elegance.

Oh well, enough rant and melancholy for today. I have to finish this up so
I can get back to whats left of the weekend.

Tim

Nobody really cared if Apple tanked it,
but now if Apple tanks it, it also tanks NeXT,
and we're going to do everything in our power
to make sure that doesn't happen. ... anonymous NeXT employee
