This little blurb from the June 1999 SiliconIndia really got my goat.
See if you can see why:

>Kleiner Perkins Backs Start-Up Doublebill.com
>Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers is the proud parent of a new
>company, Doublebill.com, which will be based in the San
>Francisco bay area.
>"We are delighted about the start-up of Doublebill.com,
>both in concept and in terms of the top management team we
>have been able to assemble," stated Vinod Khosla, a partner at
>Kleiner Perkins and a member of the new Doublebill.com
>Board of Directors. Khosla was a co-founder of Daisy Systems
>and founding chief executive officer of Sun Microsystems Inc.
>Eric J. Gertler, the new company's president and chief
>executive officer, commented, "This is just a beginning as we
>expect to significantly enhance the depth and breadth of this
>team in the near future." Gertler most recently served as presi-dent
>and chief operating officer of the magazine group that pub-lishes
>US News & World Report, The Atlantic Monthly and
>Fast Company.

If you actually visit the site,
>Welcome to Doublebill.com
>We are presently working on an exciting web launch. *

They do have their initial press release as the only bit of content
there. The last line is a doozy! But why, then would they have Louis
Monier on board (one smart cookie!)?

>Also named to Doublebill.com's Board of Directors are Sanford
>Robertson, the founder and former chairman of Robertson Stephens
>Inc., and William R. Hearst III, a partner with Kleiner Perkins.

>The company has not yet disclosed details of its business plan.

My best guess is they've hit upon the porn business' best moneymaking
scam of all, from the name...

Just remember this prospectus from the days of the South Sea Bubble:
"A Company Chartered to Undertake an Enterprise of Great Advantage,
Yet No One To Know What It Is."
