The assimilation of DEC ("Unix is snake oil") doesn't say that Unix is dead.

In my mind, a couple things that would more accurately mark Unix's death:

1. Sun's death or assimilation (or abandonment of Unix)
2. Oracle's shift to NT as primary OS.
