Serious or not, Spiro Agnew left office pleading no contest to one count
of income-tax evasion. The only charges he ever faced were civil, from
a Maryland's taxpayer's suit after being the first Vice President ever
forced from office for legal reasons. He was later disbarred by the
Maryland Court of Appeals which described him as "morally obtuse". I
think I can see a parallel.
