Java to go to ECMA, too?

A few weeks back, I demanded Java be turned over to an independent
standards body. I'm pleased to report that Sun's JavaSoft subsidiary is now
poised to relinquish key Java specifications. As covered in PC Week (see
article linked at left), JavaSoft will turn various parts of Java over to
different committees, starting with the European Computer Manufacturers
Association (ECMA), which will shepherd the specs for the Java virtual
machine
