IONA Technologies will be launching the 1997 OrbixAwards for University
based research on October 1st, 1996.
The ultimate aim of this OrbixAwards is to allow the academic world
conduct a level of research into distributed object technology that,
without the resources of this program, may not be possible. To this end,
the program provides academics with free software and technical support.
There are also commercialisation, publication, travel and substantial
financial benefits. The program is due to be launched on the 1st October
and the award period will run until the following May.
IONA Technologies is the world=92s leading provider of CORBA conforming
solutions. With Orbix, programmers can develop distributed, C++,
object-oriented applications following a consistent and straightforward,
standards-based model.
Orbix is used by thousands of developers world-wide in large and small
corporations including: Boeing Commercial Aircraft Group, Motorola and

SunSoft, Inc.
IONA would like to contact your computing department to see how we can
involve your students. Are there any departmental magazines that we
could advertise in? Is there a specific contact we could send our
brochure to? We envisage that the OrbixAwards Program will be of
interest to final year Computer Science BSc and MSc students.
