[IdeaLab] Periodical Table of Elements for IP

I always spend lots of time explaining to these TelCo hacks how IP and
the suite of Internet Protocols works by describing it as sort of an
hour glass. IP is at the heart of the hourglass (the tube through which
all the sand, or BITS, passes). Above it lie transport & protocol
layers such as HTTP, TCP, UDP, ICP, etc. Below it lie physical and
communication layers like ATM, SONET, X.xxx, ISDN, Frame Relay, etc.

Wouldn't it be neat to map out a sort of periodical table of elements
for Internetworking? Has anyone ever tried to do this?

Obviously I'm not qualified. Maybe between the lot of us, we are.
Maybe we could design a poster and make millions (ha!) selling it at
Fry's?

-Ian.
