** NOVELL INC. (NOVL: 9-1/8, - 27/32) CEO Eric Schmidt said the
company "is not for sale" but refused further comment on rumors of
a possible merger with IBM (IBM: 103-7/8, + 9/16). "First of all,
the company is not for sale," Schmidt said, adding, "I am not
allowed to comment on any of these kinds of rumors." Schmidt made
the remarks at the Java Internet Business Expo here. (Reuters)

** INTEL (INTC: 92-9/16, - 1/8) has received a request for
additional information from the FTC under the Hart-Scott-Rodino
Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 in connection with the
previously announced $17.50 per share cash tender offer by Intel's
subsidiary, Intel Enterprise Corp., for all outstanding shares of
CHIPS AND TECHNOLOGIES (CHPS: 16-15/16, - 1/8). Intel is presently
reviewing the FTC's request, with which it intends to comply. (Dow
