Software.com and Phone.com merger. Software.com
builds scalable email solutions for ISPs. They
also have a single mailbox solution for
managing multiple accounts and a Web-based
interface for managing email and calendaring.
It looks like Phone.com will use them to provide
WAP-based calendaring and email interfaces to
their back end services. They are getting a new
board and CEO to run the whole thing. Software.com
has over 100 million mailboxes that run on their software;
compared to other companies like mail.com who has
14 million mailboxes and 30 million messages per
week, it seems to be one of the biggest.
