Call me stupid, but i don't actually understand why it would take
317 people to maintain a URN database. 40? 50, maybe? All i
can tell that they do is map short names to URLs, and charge people
a lot of money for the privilege of getting a database entry.

What else are they doing that i don't know about?

Go ahead, educate me about reality; i could use a lesson.
