This is an interesting analysis of average price performance of IPOs
over the past two years, broken down by underwriter.

"Right away you'll notice that Morgan Stanley Dean Witter captured the
top spot in four of the six price-performance periods that we
measured."

So, the underwriter matters. Also it appears that end of the IPO quiet
period (30th day) does not necessarily influence price, and end of share
lock-up period (180th day) often does not tank the stock as one might
expect.
