Not too long ago a family sued GM because their son died from injuries
sustained in a rear-end colision. His new GM truck was rear-ended - whiplash
resulted in total paralysis and, years later, death. The truck didn't come
with headrests; they were an option, not required in trucks at the time of
the accident. The driver chose not to buy the option.
The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff and GM paid double-digit $MM. Now
all trucks are required to have headrests.
